How ultraviolet disinfection works:
Ultraviolet light is invisible, electromagnetic
energy with wave lengths, between visible light and x-rays.
UV light has long been acknowledged as a means of disinfection because
of its ability to kill bacteria by penetrating their outer membrane
and impairing proper DNA function.
When UV light is harnessed and properly transmitted, it provides
a practical, safe and inexpensive means of water disinfection.
This is achieved through the use of low pressure mercury vapor lamps
generate UV radiation in wavelengths as 2537A capable of destroying
virtually all known forms of microorganisms and viruses.
UpFlow Design:
The TEII UpFlow ultraviolet disinfection
unit was designed with the ease of installation into packaged wastewater
treatment systems. It was engineered to minimize installation time
as well as installation space. The Upflow unit is designed to be
placed in a stilling where with effluent will rise up through the
UV lamps and out through the 6" discharge pipe connection to
the discharge point of the wastewater treatment system. The UpFlow
unit utilizes a self cleaning mechanism which is operated by an
air piston and requires a compressor with the specified PSI rating.
With this design, the UpFlow system minimizes installation time
and space and allows for continuos operation with the automatic
quartz cleaning.
