Mechanical Clarifiers and Sludge Thickeners

Application

To meet today's growing demand for treatment to stringent effluent limits in both domestic and industrial wastewater, Tipton Environmental's line of mechanical clarifiers and thickeners is used to meet those conditions. The Tipton Environmental circular mechanical clarifier is available for those design flow rates up to 500,000 GPD. The most common applications for this system is following our secondary treatment system or in industrial applications.

Process

Tipton's mechanical clarifiers and sludge thickeners are offered in both prefabricated steel and as equipment packages to concrete tank structures. The mechanical clarifiers and thickeners work in conjunction with the preceding wastewater treatment system.

Wastewater enters the clarifier from the secondary wastewater treatment system via inlet pipe to the center still well. A torque tube is attached to the sludge collection assembly, whose purpose is to scrape the settled sludge from the floor of the clarifier to the center well where it is picked up by the airlift sludge return system. A scum collection system is provided within the clarifier chamber. The effluent of the mechanical clarifier passes over the edge of the baffled adjustable effluent weir into the effluent trough and then, out of the system.
