| Design Flow: 15,000 Gallons Per Day Type of Process: Extended Aeration Degree of Treatment: Flow Equalized/ Secondary/Chlorination Type of Waste: Domestic Location: Grange Hall, VA |
| Description: This facility is used to treat wastewater from a school. Because the school operates only during an 8-hour period, the Wastewater Treatment System will receive flow only during those hours. A flow equalization basin was incorporated into the design so that the peak flow rates will not reduce the efficiency of the Wastewater Treatment System. The purpose of the flow equalization basin is to store the 8-hour flow rate and process it to the secondary treatment system throughout a 24-hour period. (Microbes prefer to eat 24 hours/day as opposed to 8 hours/day) The Wastewater Treatment System then sees a continual flow and the quality of the effluent is noticeably cleaner. |
